The first time I read about “8 pack abs” I instantly thought it was just a myth. I mean, a six pack is already quite challenging to achieve AND maintain; 8 pack abs are simply IMPOSSIBLE.

But I don’t think so anymore…

I found out later on that 8 pack abs are indeed attainable. With some determination, the right diet, and plenty of exercise, anyone can have a chiseled 8 pack…even YOU.

Today, I’m going to focus on that last point – EXERCISE. With all the fancy gadgets that are keeping us preoccupied nowadays, exercise has been pushed down the hobbies list by many of you. I must admit, I, too, experienced an aversion to exercise once upon a time. But think about your goal for a second; wouldn’t a totally ripped midsection be so much worth it?

You need to start somewhere, right? Try out these 4 basic ways to work out abs and you’ll get the hang of it in to time:

1. Weighted Sit Ups

2. Bicycles

3. Full Body Crunches

4. Curls

Weighted Sit Ups

Anything that simulates a small amount of weight, like a heavy school book or a small bag of rice, will be useful in this exercise. Try a little creativity – you can use your purse, a medium-sized bottle of water, or even your baby!

Now, lie down on the floor, bend your knees slightly, and plant your feet firmly on the ground. Place the weight over your chest and secure it with both hands. Gradually lift your torso while keeping the lower half for you body steady. Always contract those abdominal muscles. When you’re about 45 degrees off the ground, stay there for as long as you can, then assume your original position. If you perform this exercise often, you will definitely get your 8 pack abs.

Bicycle

Out of all the 4, this has to be my favorite. Basically, with this exercise, you just lie down on the floor and begin cycling in air. Meanwhile, with your hands behind your ears, touch your right elbow to your left knee as it goes up, and then do the same with the other side.

Full Body Crunches

They say that the most challenging exercise of all will only give you the best results. This, right here, will definitely push you to get those killer abs.

While still lying on the floor, rest your hands over your chest, and bend your knees again. Now, come up as you would when you perform a regular crunch. Raise your legs toward the ceiling as you do your upper body crunch. Picture a slightly deviated horseshoe – THAT’S how your body is supposed to look like while doing this exercise. Hold that position while you keep your abs tense, and then go back to your original position.

Curls

This is very similar to the upper body crunch, but instead of just focusing on the number of reps you do, you will be paying closer attention to contracting your ab muscles and maintaining your form. Rest your hands over your stomach. Slowly curl your head and shoulders upward then resume your original position.

So, here’s the truth regarding six pack abs: Those who say that 8 pack abs are impossible to achieve are just too lazy to try it out themselves. Keep an open mind, work hard, and you can attain ANYTHING!

Home ab workout: crunch exercise for 6-pack abs

Don’t let the TV ads convince you to buy some bulky contraption that will gather dust in your closet, crunches are safe and effective! This video clip shows how to do crunches with varying degrees of difficulty based on your ability. Remember that ab exercises alone will not give you abs! If you have the best abs in the world they will be completely invisible if you are overweight. Aerobic exercise and proper diet are even more important than ab exercises in getting that sought after 6-pack. Form is very important in crunches, many people do them incorrectly and end up working out their neck or hips more than their abs. Use slow movements and only use the abs. Concentrate on trying to raise your shoulders straight up towards the ceiling. Don’t worry about how many reps you do but focus on using perfect form. No whipping the head around or flapping your arms! This is not a sit-up either, the hips are stationary. Also important is to minimize any tension in the neck, I do this by very lightly supporting my head with my hands or the weight plate The main reason to workout abs is because strong abs stabilize your lower back and shield you from injury but as a side benefit a 6-pack looks great! I am not one to get out of the house and spend time at the gym or fitness center. What I wanted to do was to get in shape at home. Maybe once I was in shape I might venture out to the gym once in a while just to show off but to start with I wanted to stay at home. I did a number of things at my home workout routine including a six pack ab exercise or maybe I should say a number of 6-pack abs exercises.

I basically did two things once I made my mind up to lose my belly fat and get a flat stomach. Again, I wanted to get in shape at home so I had to figure out where and how I was going to do it. Not always easy if you do not have the space or the home gym equipment. But I was able to do it because I found a great program to point me in the right direction starting with making my mind up. Here are the two things I implemented.

I decided on my exercise routine. This is a necessary. If we do not have a plan we will fail every time. I know it can be a huge elephant to eat if we try to do it all at once. But even the largest elephant can be polished off if we take one bite at a time. Once you get your routine of exercises, and it does not have to be a lot just a well rounded routine, you need to begin at a moderate pace. Do not try to lose it all in two days. It will take weeks and months to get in shape at home or anywhere else for that matter. I purchased an exercise ball and put up a pull-up bar in the garage and followed a great program I found on the Internet and did one specific six pack ab exercise daily. I did not do all my exercise routine daily because we need to rest the muscles too but this one I did daily. It is called the plank and all you do is get into a push up pose leaning on your forearms and on your toes. Try to hold that position as long as you can and if you get past two minutes you are doing great.

I also decided to watch my nutrition. Yes, along with exercise you need to watch what you are eating. This nutritional and exercise program I got online has a fantastic section on the kinds of foods to eat and the ones to stay away from. So I just began to change the way I ate and actually started to see the effects of my changed eating habits in just a couple of days. My energy was better and I felt better than I had for years. Eating fat is not the problem we all need fats in our system the key is knowing which fats to eat and which ones to stay clear of. If you want to get in shape at home then watch what you eat.

Well the length of time to get in shape at home might take longer than if you were to hire a personal trainer and spend your days at the gym but it does not have to take any longer. However, you will have to make your mind up and get motivated to get it done.
